Robert Boyle Lived from 1627-1691. He was born at Lismore Castle in Ireland to Sir Richard, the wealthy Earl of Cork and Lady Boyle. He was child number fourteen.

In such a wealthy state and having encouragement from his father, Robert had the best schooling plus private tutors.

He first started his education at the college founded by King Henry VI, almost 200 years before Robert was born.

From here Robert was sent to the mainland of Europe where eventually he would attend school in Geneva.

Robert Boyle was sixteen years old on the mainland of Europe when he met a man, a role model who intensified Roberts push for knowing more about God's creation. Robert had the honor of meeting Galileo. By this time of his life, Galileo was aged and ailing yet he had a great influence on Roberts life.

As Robert grew in strength and in knowledge he began to have difficulties with the alchemists of his day. For many centuries leading up to the 1600's certain people known as alchemists would spend their time trying to turn base lead into gold or produce an 'elixir of life'. Their main concern was wealth and prosperity not the study of the sciences in order to gain more knowledge of God's creation.

While Robert was 18 he had a part in founding the Philosophical College in London which was later to be known as the Royal Society of London. Here is a list of Studies and accomplishments:

Specialized in Chemistry

Maintained a belief in the necessity of objective observation in research

At age 25 studied anatomy back in Ireland

At 27 established a laboratory in Oxford

Along with Robert Hooke, a Bible-Believing Christian, invented the 'forerunner' to the modern air-pump.

It was during this time that he promoted his atomic theory. Today's understanding of matter was based on his work. It was an uphill climb for Robert Boyle, even when much of what the alchemist taught was counted as fact. He did have to deal with some ridicule

Then what might be considered the most important addition to the sciences was what is now known as the Boyle Law.

The Boyle Law says that the volume of a given quantity of gas varies inversely with the pressure when the temperature is constant.

The accomplishments that Robert Boyle had is valuable to the science world. More than that, his methods have stood out so much that he is considered one of the originators of the 'experimental method'.

In Closing, writer Robert Doolan had this to say about Robert Boyle, "In his lectures and many writings, Robert Boyle showed that science and faith in God can exist side by side. He praised His Creator for all the scientific discoveries he had made, and urged others to do likewise. He recognized that the universe works in accordance with the laws of nature which God established for its order and control." 1
