God Gene Makes You Believe in God
I am reading an article right now (put out by TownHall.com you can find the link for the whole story at the bottom of this blog) which talks about Dr Gene Hamer, a geneticist. Dr. Hamer claims that religious people have a god gene that makes them believe there is a god.
It doesn't matter your religion, David Limbaugh writes that according to Dr. Hamer, "Buddha, Mohammed and Jesus all shared a series of mystical experiences or alterations in consciousness and thus probably carried the gene."
David Limbaugh gives some thought provoking ideas and I leave it to you to read his article. My thought is. What do you do with the people who change "mid-stream?" You know the athiest who has changed to believe there is a god, was his 'god gene' just lying dorment?
In the end it is Dr Hamer, because of pride in his heart, will come up with anything to deny the one true God, the Creator of the universe. It will be curious to see where the humanist community goes with this.
Let us pray for Dr. Hamer that God will reveal Himself to the Doctor. And that the Doctor may worship God with the rest of us sinners saved by grace through Jesus Christ.

Here is yet another attempt at explaining behavior or perhaps reducing behavior to genetics. I first became aware of this news via a column by David Limbaugh (see Hat tip below). Much work remains to be done to verify Dr. Hamer's hypothesis. Nevertheless, its implications are such that much buzz in various communities is inevitable. I can see how many might not only use Hamer's thesis to explain religious belief, but to explain it away. My of my comments on the God Gene are here.
