Quotes from Richard Darwkins (only with sources cited):

"These children are being taught ludicrous falsehoods." He made this statement in objection to a school teaching creation science. He charged them with teaching ONLY creation and not evolution. Dawkins was calling for the school to be re-inspected.

My Thoughts
I don't know about Richard Dawkins or the BBC News but American Newspapers have a problem with getting the story wrong. They like to accuse schools who want a more balanced approach(both creation and evolution taught) with not teaching evolution at all. Where in reality the schools want to show where evolution fails.

Evolutionists, however, have enough faith in evolutionism that they are willing to wait for the evidence to show up. They are guilty of the very thing they charge the schools with.

  • Where, I ask, does evolution fail? The process of evolution is a scientific fact akin to gravity and the spherical earth. The problems with evolution come in terms of the mechanism of it.

This isn't 'fair treatment' of both ideas. Not a single bit of research in support of creationism or intelligent design has been submitted to a peer reviewed scientific journal. They have not earned the right to be on any science course.

We are not guilty of "faith". We have evidence and a lot of it, and can be afforded a few gaps here and there. The gaps are, afterall, there because scientists expose them in the indefinate quest for knowledge.

We're scientists: we don't know everything about the theory because we don't pretend it to be fundamental truth (and before you gank me on the "scientific fact" bit, you should look into what defines a scientific fact), and so we try to raise questions, get answers, and find out more. This isn't a weakness.

Evolution is based upon observation and the empiral method, whilst providing us with ways to predict x, y and z. It has been substantiated by the vast majority of biologists, and is the only credible scientific theory to explain our origins (upto the first lifeform). Why shouldn't scientist get annoyed when poorly founded theological alternatives get equal measure?
